Sony Pictures confirm ‘The Boondocks’ reboot is official with the creator Aaron McGruder
It looks the rumours were true after all, after five years of speculation and rumors, it has finally been confirmed that The Boondocks will be getting a reboot. Variety reported, Variety reported that Sony Pictures Animation has announced a host of new projects slated to be released in 2020, including a Boondocks “reimagining.” Viewers may fear the terminology means the studio will smooth out the show’s trademark edginess and dark humour but the partnership is actually stays true to the source material and earlier seasons. Sony Pictures handled the production of every Boondocks season except the fourth. Season 4 was also the only one made without creator Aaron McGruder.
Seeing the classic trio of Huey Freeman, Riley Freeman and Robert Freeman will be awesome According to Variety, the Boondocks reboot “chronicles the battles of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland, with an iron fist.”
The beloved animated comedy ran for four seasons from 2005-2014 on Adult Swim, although the fourth and final season was produced without McGruder’s involvement following scheduling disputes with Adult Swim.
It looks like this reboot, will beon Adult Swim EW has dropped the reveal that the Boondocks reboot series is in the works, while confirming that series creator Aaron McGruder is indeed involved:
“A complete re-imagining” of The Boondocks “for the modern era” is in development from original series creator Aaron McGruder, the studio announced Wednesday morning at the 2019 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.”
This announcement comes as McGruder has also been rebooting the actual Boondocks comic strip that inspired the animated series, releasing new socio-politically charged strips via social media platforms, through third-party accounts like New York radio host, Charlamagne Tha God:
