How to Output All PS4 Audio Through Headphones via DualShock 4

Playing video games is fun and games but sometimes a good old, tutorial is needed to help new comers to PlayStation. Luckily, I am the man for the job. The audio is just as important as the actual game play. If you’re into gaming like me and you don’t have access to a premium PlayStation 4 headset (3.5mm jack, traditional Apple iPod headphones style or ear buds via the Dualshock 4) all you need to do is follow these rules.

  1. Plug in the Headphones in

Make sure you plug-in, any pair of headphones with a 3.55 mm adapter at this point in time. An adapter is recommended as well plug into the slot on the bottom of the Dualshock 4 that is between the underside of the analogue sticks of the PlayStation 4 controller.

2. Hold the PlayStation Button

The PlayStation button is located on the middle of the controller. It is the “PS logo” this is the button that is located between the two analogue sticks in the lower half of the Dualshock 4, you must hold this button until the quick menu turns up on the left of the screen.

Select Adjust Devices

At the top of the menu, select the ‘Sound/Devices’ icon using the X button on the DualShock 4. You’ll be taken to a second tier of the Quick Menu screen for your viewing pleasure.

3. Turn on All Audio Output

Using your, PlayStaion 4 controller scroll down to the ‘output to headphones’ options using the D-Pad and additionally press the X button. Make sure you select the option “All Audio” from the sub-menu and make sure you press the X button again.

The volume can be changed by pushing the d-pad left and right in the ‘Volume Control (Headphones)’ toggle located just above the ‘Output to Headphones’ option. If you’d prefer to just hear voice chat audio through your headphones, you can select that in the ‘Output to Headphones’ option again.

The console should remember your default settings, so whenever you connect a pair of headphones to your DualShock 4, it should work automatically moving forwards.
