Get Out’s director Jordan Peele is rumoured to be directing the live-action adaption of AKIRA

GET OUT’s director Jordan Peeleis rumoured to be working with Warner Brothers to direct the Akira (1998) live action adaption film. Akira (1998) is a cult class Japanese anime movie, Akira is a well known anime movie.

Akira (1998) Movie Synopsis

The original Akira movie depicts a dystopian, cyberpunk-based Tokyo in 2019, focusing on teenage biker Tetsuo Shima and his leader, Shotaro Kaneda. Because of Tetsuo’s superpowers, Kaneda, resistance terrorist Kei, Colonel Shikishima of the JSDF and a trio of espers, attempt to prevent Tetsuo from releasing the imprisoned psychic, Akira. While most of the character designs and settings were adapted from the manga, the plot differs considerably and prunes much of the last half of Akira.

The film has garnered a large cult following since its theatrical release, and is widely considered to be a landmark in Japanese animation. It is considered by many critics to be one of the greatest animated and science fiction movies of all time.

Jordan Peele, is making waves (Gaining positive publicity) in his career, as a director. After directing the critically acclaimed, horror flick “Get Out” . Starring British actor Daniel Kaluuya and American actress Allison Williams , this horror/gore movie made $154.5 million in the box office, so in short that movie was huge success.

My only concern about this news is the casting Jordan Peele, is no stranger to the entertainment industry. He has experience acting and off course directing. Since Akira is based on a Japanese manga and is a Japanese animated film, it’s only right to make majority of the cast East Asian.

I feel like this movie, is the perfect opportunity for East Asian actors to be put on the spotlight. Since “white washing” is a issue with a lot of films like this; The casting diretors should not try to change this film too much and pay homage to the original this movie by hiring mostly East Asian actors, since this film is Japanese.

I hope they don’t mess up this classic anime film. the casting choices for this upcoming live-action adaption film need to be apporirate to the source material. (The Akira Manga)

Akira is an iconic, Japanese anime movie. That deserves nothing but respect, I hope Warner Brothers and all the people involved, in creating this movie create a true tribute with this newly planned live action adaptation movie.
